Transportation Assistance 

ALAMO CALL-A-RIDE 4 VETS (CARV)
To provide free transportation for veterans, their spouses, widows and widowers of spouses for a variety of reasons in the Alamo Area Council of Governments coverage area, including Kerr County.  The program is provided to veterans regardless of income and their spouses throughout the 13-county AACOG Region.  The rider may be referred by a social worker, case manager or other advocate.  AACOG staff verifies eligibility and informs potential rider of required supporting information.  Five to seven days’ notice is normally required to schedule rides once veteran or spouse has registered.  Future riders are asked to allow seven to ten days prior to ride request.
Eligibility:  Proof of military service (service documents) or VA identification; number of trips based on funding to this AACOG program.

ART (ALAMO REGIONAL TRANSPORT)
To provide low-cost transportation to anyone in rural areas.  This service for a fare each way is available to the general public, and ART vehicles are wheelchair accessible.  Service is pick-up and drop-off at the curb, and riders must be capable of getting themselves and their belongings or purchases to and from the vehicle.  Rides can be requested up to 30 days in advance.  Reservations are on a first-come first-served basis.  The fare schedule is based on pick-up and drop-off points and currently says:  one way in town is $2; one way out of town but in the same county is $6; one way to one county over is $8; and one way to two or more counties over is $12. Trips to San Antonio are only provided on Tuesdays and Thursdays; appointments need to be scheduled for no later than 10:30 am to return by 1:30 pm.  Trips to San Antonio need to be planned 2 to 3 weeks in advance.

EASY RIDER TAXI
To provide “vehicles for hire” registered through the City of Kerrville.  For new residents at Freedom’s Path apartments on the Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) grounds, a taxi ride to either HEB grocery stores, a distance of about 3 miles, is about $10 each way.  Extra charge is assessed if a customer with disabilities needs a wheelchair loaded or unloaded, asks the driver to load or unload groceries, or asks the driver to carry the groceries into the residence.

KERR KONNECT TRANSPORTATION
To enable those with limited transportation to access needed medical and other life enhancing services in order to remain active, healthy, and connected to the community.  We provide door-to-door transport by volunteer drivers to grocery and other community services within a ten-mile radius of the Kerr County Courthouse.  We are unable to accommodate wheelchairs at this time.
Eligibility:  Client must be ambulatory and over 18 years of age.  Client must be a member ($20) to be able to schedule rides.  Vouchers may be available in some cases.  Client may schedule up to three rides per week—$2 one way and $4 round trip

STANDARD TRANSPORT
To provide “non-emergency medical transportation services” 24/7 and for other needs as well.  This is not a traditional taxi service.  Customers have been transported all around the Kerrville area and also to San Antonio on occasion.  Potential customers need to call for fare prices as the cost is subject to distance and time of day.  A one-way trip of up to 5 miles usually costs $20.
